Remington Collectible 870 Is 2010 SHOT Show Shotgun

It has won thousands of clay target competitions, accompanied millions of hunters into the field and captured the respect and trust of countless sportsmen and sportswomen. Reaching the 10,000,000 production mark in April 2009, the Remington Model 870 pump action shotgun is the most popular shotgun ever made. And now, the 10,000,001th Model 870 will be featured as the 2010 SHOT Show shotgun as the Model 870 begins its march towards its next milestone.

On Sept. 24, Remington Arms ran a full-page ad in USA Today® thanking America and the millions of Model 870 owners for making it possible for the 870 to reach the 10,000,000th production mark.

The Hunting Heritage Trust, which coordinates the SHOT Show auction for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, suggested to Remington executives that the 10,000,001th Model 870 would be a terrific choice as the 2010 SHOT Show shotgun. Remington agreed, thus providing thousands of Model 870 fans with the opportunity to bid on this truly historic firearm. The gun will carry the theme of "The First of the Next 10,000,000". It will be on display at the Remington booth at the 2010 SHOT SHOW in Las Vegas and photos can be viewed at www.huntingheritagetrust.org in mid-late December.

The 10,000,001th Model 870 will be tastefully and appropriately engraved by the artisans at Baron Engraving in Trumbull, Conn. Baron has engraved many of the featured SHOT SHOW guns and knives over the past several years. According to Baron President, David Baron, "The oldest record we can find of a richly engraved Model 870 milestone gun was the 2,000,000th 870 Wingmaster engraved by well-know Remington engraver Robert Runge in late 1973-early 1974. We think it highly appropriate to base our work on the highly impressive original patterns used by Mr. Runge nearly four decades ago."

Remington is America's oldest gunmaker and has proudly manufactured the Model 870 since its introduction in 1950 and every year since then. Although Remington introduced many variations of the Model 870 throughout the years to suit the specific needs of a wide variety of users including hunters, trap shooters, left-handers and youth as well as platforms designed for use by law enforcement agencies and military worldwide; the Model 870 has remained true to its original design. Gun owners everywhere appreciate the value and quality of the Model 870, making it the shotgun of choice in gun cabinets across the country.

In honor of this 870 Milestone achievement, Remington is also sponsoring the "10 Millionth Model 870 Shotgun" Sweepstakes. To enter the "10 Millionth Model 870 Shotgun" Sweepstakes and view entry guidelines, log on at www.remington.com/10milu. Entries will be accepted online from 9/24/09-12/31/09 with 10 eligible adult winners selected to receive a commemorative Model 870 pump-action shotgun, recognizing this milestone.

This highly collectible gun will be available for viewing and bidding exclusively on GunBroker.com. Bidding will begin on or about Dec. 28 and run through 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, the closing day of the SHOT Show.
