The Palazzo and Venetian: Don’t forget that the Sands Expo is connected to both the Venetian and Palazzo hotels. Both offer a ton of amazing dining options. For example, the Grand Luxe Cafe, owned by The Cheesecake Factory, is open 24 hours and the food is great. If you’re looking for the character of a neighborhood diner, minus the kitsch, FIRST Food & Bar is located in the Shoppes at the Palazzo. NSSF Member Lounge: Yet another perk for members of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the NSSF Member Lounge (sponsored by GunBroker.com) is located in the Lido Ballroom on Level 3 of the Venetian. It’s a convenient place for members to sit down for lunch and take a break from the show floor.

Convention Center: For those that don’t want to stray too far from the show floor, there are a number of places to eat within the convention center area.

It seems that the cooler post-Labor Day weather has prompted an early hatch of hotel scammers trying to separate SHOT Show exhibitors from their money and perhaps leave them without a place to lay their head in Las Vegas.

That’s why we caution all SHOT Show attendees and exhibitors to be wary of third-party services when booking your rooms for the show. In years past we received reports of unscrupulous hotel room resellers taking payment from SHOT Show attendees and exhibitors without actually booking the rooms. The ringleader of one of those parasitic posses is currently enjoying the hospitality of Nevada Department of Corrections.

I know, we haven’t even reached the official start of summer, but the SHOT Show is always just around the corner. And there’s no time like the present to prepare. Here are five things you should do now to ensure your 2013 SHOT Show is a success.

Register your booth staff early being sure to provide individual emails for each person. The email is their unique identifier and is required to activate the SHOT Show Mobile App.
Book your hotel rooms through the official SHOT Show Housing Bureau. By booking through the “block,” your purchase is guaranteed, unlike third-party resellers that have scammed prominent industry companies. Our research shows that those who stay on-property are more satisfied than those who have to deal with traffic, shuttle bus lines and weather.
Order your State of the Industry tickets as soon as they are available, as the event sells out quickly. Just 2,000 seats are available for the industry’s biggest night, which will be capped with a performance by America’s Got Talent winning ventriloquist, Terry Fator.

NSSF recently learned that the Nevada Attorney General’s Office arrested an individual for allegedly running a hotel room reservation scam on unsuspecting SHOT Show exhibitors and attendees — further proof that everyone should be wary of third-party housing companies.

While other hotel resellers may contact you offering housing for your trip, they are not endorsed by or affiliated with the show and entering into financial agreements with such companies can have costly consequences.

Arrest Made in SHOT Show Room-Reservation Scam

NSSF has learned that last week the Nevada Attorney General’s Office arrested an individual for allegedly running a hotel room reservation scam on unsuspecting SHOT Show exhibitors and attendees.

According to the Attorney General’s press release, Todd Harrington, through his company HDMC Group LLC, entered into agreements with several businesses between March and December 2010 to secure hotels rooms for various trade shows, including SHOT Show, but allegedly never made the hotel reservations as promised leaving these businesses out a significant amount of money and without a place to stay.

NSSF applauds the Nevada Attorney General’s Office for its actions in protecting tradeshows and their visitors. The SHOT Show continues to remind its exhibitors and attendees to exercise caution when dealing with unofficial third-party travel companies and housing providers.

Deals that sound too good to be true likely are. For peace of mind and easy access to the 2012 SHOT Show, book your hotel rooms with the show’s headquarter hotels — The Venetian and The Palazzo Hotels — directly through the SHOT Show website or by calling 866-587-4708 or 702-414-4100 (International).

Alternatively, exhibitors and attendees can book rooms through the show’s official hotel and travel partner onPeak online or by calling 800-388-8104 or 312-527-7300 (International) for the lowest guaranteed room rates at other area hotels risk-free.

Be Wary of Third-Party Hotel Scams

As a caution to all SHOT Show attendees and exhibitors, please be wary of third-party services when booking your rooms for the show. Not booking through the SHOT Show Housing Bureau or directly through the hotel can be risky.

Last year, we received reports that at least one hotel room reseller had taken payment from SHOT Show attendees and exhibitors without actually booking the rooms.
