NSSF President Steve Sanetti’s remarks at the SHOT Show’s annual State of the Industry event

Remarks by Steve Sanetti, NSSF President and CEO, at the State of the Industry Dinner at SHOT Show on Tuesday, Jan. 14:

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.

A year ago, we met in the shadow of a horrifying event that shook America to its core.

A lot of soul-searching needed to be done, and was done.

In the light of an unprecedented gun-control push by this administration, advocacy groups, and the media, it was thought by many that emotion would triumph over facts and logic.

We were called every name in the book.

This industry and its law-abiding, responsible customers responded respectfully and thoughtfully to some of the most outrageous attacks upon us.

The determination to make our case known to all those interested in the truth was overwhelming and extremely gratifying.

A look around this room will show one of the finest assemblages of the American spirit we will ever see.

We rely upon you to win this fight.

If our industry doesn’t have the integrity, the passion, and the determination to stand up for the law-abiding citizens of this great nation, then we are finished.

But we’re not finished! … Not by a long shot.

In fact, our message of thoughtful criticism of well-meant but ineffective proposals to thwart the lawless elements of our society by heaping even more restrictions upon hunters, target shooters, collectors, and those seeking to lawfully defend their families, has resonated with the American public.

Not only has support for these wrongly-directed gun control proposals returned to pre-Newtown levels, but  we have seen record numbers of Americans from all walks of life flock to the side of lawful firearms ownership.

WE HAVE WEATHERED THE STORM.

Now, this has been the result of a lot of hard work and dedicated efforts by a lot of good people.

To borrow a now-famous phrase, “We didn’t do it alone.”

But we at the NSSF, our board of governors, and our entire industry, embarked on what many thought was an extremely ambitious, perhaps overly-ambitious, or even an unachievable goal five years ago—

“To increase participation in hunting and the shooting sports by 20 percent by the year 2014.”

Let’s see how we’ve done, working together as never before, in the face of overt hostility by those who see no value in the lawful enjoyment of responsible firearms ownership or a day afield or at the range with family and friends.

We know those joys —and our efforts to include others is having a profound effect upon participation in the shooting sports.

Consider these facts, comparing 2008 to 2013:

–Hunting license sales are up, led by a million new apprentice hunting licenses issued pursuant to the Families Afield and TrailBlazer Programs, themselves up 223 percent.

–Our firearms retailer survey also shows sales trends strongly up
from 2008 to 2011.

And since 2006, hunter expenditures have grown 55 percent.

“Hunting Works for America” is a strong coalition of businesses that directly benefit from these expenditures, giving local economies a healthy boost in revenues in these past five economically troubled years.

That’s over a million American jobs, and $67 million added to the economy each year.

–A nationwide scientific survey by Responsive Management shows that 79 percent of Americans over age 17 approve of hunting, up five percent in just two years to the highest level since 1995; and hunting participation is up nine percent since 2006, reversing a decades-long decline, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Total days of hunting went up 28 percent during this period, and the number of women hunters surged by 25 percent between 2006 and 2011, according to the census bureau.

–National Instant Criminal Background Checks for new firearms sold at retail are up over 53 percent.

Federal excise tax revenues on the sales of new firearms and ammunition, used to conserve all species of wildlife, shot up from $309 million in 2008 to almost $644 million in 2012, over a 100 percent increase, with 2013 on track to do even better.

Sportsmen remain the single largest contributors to conservation in America, with funds coming from every cartridge or firearm or hunting license sold.

–Membership in the NSSF is up 71 percent, to over 10,000, despite the fact that currently only 25 percent of exhibitors are members, and NSSF’s First Shots participants are up 23 percent.

–Skeet shooting and sporting clays are up 26 percent, with an increase of 27 percent in scholastic clay target program participants.

–Defensive pistol shooting course participation is up 57 percent.

–Persons holding concealed carry licenses are up 32 percent nationwide.

–National Wild Turkey Federation programs are up 70 percent.

–Outdoor Adventures and Youth hunts are up an astonishing 100 percent, and 4-H Shooting Sports activities are up 169 percent.

THERE ARE SO MANY POSITIVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THE STATE OF THE SHOOTING SPORTS IN AMERICA TODAY!

–“Pull the Trigger,” our extremely popular and informative short how-to-do-it video clips on the NSSF website, has gone from nothing to over one million email addresses each month—I suppose that’s a one million percent increase!

–Our “Analysis of Sport Shooting Participation trends in the U.S. 2008-2012” shows that over 40 million Americans now enjoy target shooting, up 17 percent since 2009.

Twenty percent of all target shooters first started participating during the last five years.

These participants are younger, more female and more urban-based, coinciding with the surge in firearms sales that began in 2008 — 40 CONSECUTIVE month’s sales growth.

While self-defense was a key motivation for 76 percent of these sales, right behind that was the desire to participate in shooting activities with family and friends, cited by 73 percent of first-time gun buyers.

Women target shooters have also increased by 34 percent, according to the National Sporting Goods Association.

These represent the future of our industry and shooting sports in America.

The NSSF range partnership program has helped upgrade over 100 shooting ranges nationwide.

More ranges have received our coveted Five Star rating.

And our “Where to Shoot” app has been a big hit with iPhone and Android users, at one point soaring up to the number four spot of all free sports apps with more than 100,000 downloads.

Our Collegiate Shooting Sports Initiative has also grown since 2008, from nothing to over 100 participating colleges and universities.

These are just some of the statistics we’ve gathered on the successful efforts of so many groups, and so many of you, to keep our recreational shooting sports vital and growing.

Time doesn’t permit me to mention all of you who have given so much so successfully to our cause, but you have the profound thanks of our entire industry and the recreational shooting sports community.

So, ladies and gentlemen, as we gather tonight, the State of Our Industry is renewed.

More persons are entering the recreational shooting sports than ever before.

More hunters, more target shooters, more women, more diverse groups, more licensed gun owners, and, as you all know, more firearms sales.

Perhaps the best news of all is that, despite tremendous increases in these numbers, violent crime with firearms has decreased dramatically during the last five years, to early 1960s levels;

and accidents with firearms have dropped 22 percent, now accounting for less than one percent of all fatal accidents in this country, according to the National Safety Council.

Voluntary industry safety programs such as Project ChildSafe’s 36 million free lock and safety package giveaways to over 15,000 communities have undoubtedly helped.

And we are pledged to continue these efforts.

So be proud of the contributions you are making.

Be proud of our young people, like the Olympic shooters we are honored to have with us tonight.

Be proud of your NSSF staff, which works so hard every day for you to promote, protect, and preserve hunting and the shooting sports.

Be proud of all the volunteer hunter and firearms safety instructors who work so hard to keep a safe sport safe.

Be proud of all those who take the time to take a new person to the range.

Be proud that the excise taxes you all pay every time you buy any firearm or ammunition contribute billions of dollars a year to conserve wildlife, game and non-game species alike.

And finally, be proud that you are keeping our nation strong by keeping a precious American tradition of personal responsibility and safety and security alive for future generations.

For ours is a precious legacy enjoyed by no other society on the face of the earth.

As we begin a new year and set new goals for the next five years, we stand on the shoulders of giants — and we will not let them down.

Thank you.

Retailers: Getting the Most Out of SHOT Show

One of main focuses of National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) at the upcoming 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas is to provide educational tools for independent retailers. Thus, NSSF, owner and sponsor of the SHOT Show, is offering a schedule of information-packed classes from ATF compliance to range operations to maximizing your sales per square foot. These classes were designed to meet the needs of the new retailer while providing information and an opportunity to network for the veteran firearms merchant. Here are some highlights.

MONDAY, JAN. 13
SHOT SHOW UNIVERSITY

  • On the day before the exhibit floor opens, NSSF hosts the premier education seminar for the firearms retailer. This day-long event starts with a keynote delivered by Dan Mann, founder of the Mann Group. He’ll address “Strategies that Grow Revenue (and Profit) Even During Lean Times,” which will identify proven sales processes that maximize both revenue and the potential of each customer once he or she is in the store. Ann Baldwin will deliver a presentation on “Media and Crisis Training,” preparing retailers and range owners for any emergency that might arise that would cause the media to come calling. Then we will be offering four different educational tracks: ATF Compliance; Retail Operations; Marketing; and Range Operations. Each track will offer five courses that cover various aspects of the main topic. The seminar will close with an address by Dr. Chip Bell entitled “Strategies for Creating Growth and Bottom Line Impact,” which will draw upon Dr. Bell’s decades of work helping leading brands stay ahead of the competition by maintaining world-class customer-experience strategies.

The learning doesn’t stop with the start of the SHOT Show; NSSF has classes planned throughout the show.

TUESDAY, JAN. 14
RETAILER SEMINARS, ATF COMPLIANCE SESSIONS

  • The following day, NSSF will be hosting classes on “Grass Roots Political Organizing” so our retailers can learn how to protect their rights and their industry by organizing at the state and local level. The next session will cover “Building a Gunsmith,” presented by instructors from Montgomery Community College. They will discuss the training that they provide the modern gun-smith, and how, as a retailer, you can take advantage of their skill set to build your business. The next class is “New Customers: How to Attract, Engage, and Retain Them,” which covers the techniques that two of the top independent retailers have used to meet the needs of the younger and more diverse customer base with which firearms retailers are dealing today. Two ATF compliance courses round out the day. “NFA Compliance” will review how to legally sell one of the hottest commodities in the firearms industry, and we will close the day with our NSSF FFL Compliance Consultant panel, hosted by two former ATF executives. They will conduct an open discussion on any ATF-related compliance questions.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 15
INCREASING SALES, AND MARKETING TO WOMEN

  • The SHOT Show continues its formal educational program with a presentation on “Increasing Your Sales per Square Foot and Inventory Turns.” This program will be presented by two of the nation’s top independent retailers and will cover their strategies to maximize store space and inventory while meeting their customers’ needs. The next session is a panel discussion with seven of the top women in the firearms industry covering the do’s and don’ts of marketing to women.

THURSDAY, JAN. 16
FOUR DIVERSE, VALUABLE CLASSES

  • The formal educational programs at SHOT Show will wrap up with an exciting and diverse lineup of sessions, beginning with “What Business Structure Is Right for My Business?” presented by two partners from the Renzulli Law Firm. “Loss-Prevention Strategies” are covered in the next session to help ensure the longevity of your business. The next seminar, “Store Layout,” will cover techniques used by two world-class retailers that can help you provide the best customer experience while maximizing your return on investment. The day will wrap up with “Hiring and Retaining Employees,” which will cover best practices to retain your most valuable asset— your personnel.

A goal for NSSF at the SHOT Show is to provide a world-class educational experience so retailers can maximize profits while meeting the needs of their customers. For more information about these programs, please visit shotshow .org/education.

SHOT Show Update – Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed

Las VegasSince we last gathered at the Sands Expo in January, it’s been an exciting and challenging year for the industry as a whole, and in particular for your industry’s trade association and its signature event—the SHOT Show. Throughout the process, our focus has been to maintain continuity for our exhibitors and attendees while delivering a continuously improving SHOT Show experience.

In May, NSSF ended its 30-plus-year association with Reed Exhibitions. After a thorough national search involving the trade show industry’s top management companies, we named Las Vegas–based ConvExx as our new show management partner for the next three years. ConvExx is privately held and has produced more than 200 shows and events, including the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. Trade Show Executive magazine ranks the SEMA Show as the fourth-largest trade show in North America (SHOT Show is ranked 16th), with 2,250 exhibitors, 135,000 attendees, and more than 1 million net square feet of exhibit space.

ConvExx offers a unique combination of extensive large-show and Las Vegas experience, which will serve our exhibitors and attendees well. Rest assured that ConvExx is a pro–Second Amendment organization. We wouldn’t have selected them otherwise.

We have also struck a new five-year agreement with our long-time partners at Freeman as the official exposition services contractor for the SHOT Show. This new agreement with Freeman provides our exhibitors with the best-in-class services and cost certainty.

Freeman is the leading global partner for integrated marketing solutions for live engagements. It produces more than 4,300 expositions annually, including 135 of the 250 largest U.S. trade shows, and 11,000 other events worldwide. What’s more, the Freeman family is made up of avid hunters and shooters.

Also in May, NSSF selected CSG Creative as its agency of record for marketing the 2014 SHOT Show. CSG was selected at the conclusion of a national account review that included a number of well-known trade-show marketing agencies. Their experience in the trade-show and face-toface event business is unparalleled, and we have enjoyed working with them to make the 2014 SHOT Show the best event yet.

Based in Alexandria, Virginia, CSG Creative is a strategic marketing and creative agency with unparalleled insight into event promotion, branding, and strategy development. Its award-winning creative staff, stellar service, and innovative approaches have made CSG one of the premier agencies in trade-show, conference, and event promotion. We’re confident that our new SHOT Show website and new attendee promotion campaign, combined with our participation in the U.S. Department of Commerce International Buyer Program, will deliver new qualified buyers for our exhibitors.

We’ve also reached new agreements with our official housing partner onPeak, our registration services provider CompuSystems, and our mobile app developer Sherpa. All have done a great job for us, and we look forward to working with them to make the SHOT Show the industry’s “must-attend” event.

Here’s what’s in store for you. You’ll receive the same outstanding customer service you’ve come to expect from NSSF and the SHOT Show, and enjoy the comfortable familiarity of our registration and housing systems. There will be additional newly designed, high-impact signage to help you find your way around, including arrows pointing to the main hall exits on Level 1 and Level 2.

Retailers will have more opportunities to learn new skills and take innovative ideas back to their stores from SHOT Show University and our expanded retailer education seminars. In addition, select retail buyers will be invited to participate in a hands-on shooting range experience on opening morning.

The Law Enforcement Education Program will begin the day before the show opening, providing LE professionals with the opportunity to earn continuing education unit credits while learning from nationally recognized experts.

Outdoor Channel has returned as the Pinnacle Sponsor of the 2014 SHOT Show and will be providing attendees with amenities such as mobile-device-charging stations and Internet hotspots. State of the Industry Dinner attendees will be treated to a performance by renowned illusionists and Second Amendment supporters Penn and Teller, courtesy of Outdoor Channel.

The 2014 SHOT Show is just too good to miss. I hope to see you in Las Vegas.

NSSF President Steve Sanetti’s remarks at the SHOT Show’s annual State of the Industry event

NSSF President Steve Sanetti’s remarks at the SHOT Show’s annual State of the Industry event:

The State of our Industry is, in a word, misunderstood.

Who among us has not been moved by the unspeakable tragedy that was inflicted by a deranged man upon the children of Newtown, Connecticut, our very home at the NSSF?

What can possibly heal the wounds, silence the anguished outcries, and make rational discourse on such a heartfelt topic occur?

I submit that there are not two “sides” to this debate.  There is only one side — the good people of America, on all points of the political spectrum, united in THEIR revulsion over this senseless, evil attack on our most helpless.  Yes — there is only one side — the good side — the “better angels of our nature,” as Lincoln said, “Opposing evil.”

We all must recognize that those who don’t agree with us share in our desire to rid the world of such monstrous acts; and they must recognize that we are not the evildoers.  Ours is a responsible industry that makes and sells lawful products to law-abiding citizens. Citizens who exercise their constitutional right to own, use and enjoy firearms safely and responsibly for all lawful purposes. We are part of the fabric of American life, and we treasure our children, our heritage, and our traditions.

I don’t think many of those who disagree with what we do appreciate the many things we’ve done to advocate personal responsibility with firearms.  Many  have either no experience with firearms or, unfortunately, have had negative experiences, either first hand or via the media, who rarely portray firearms or their owners the way the vast majority actually use them.

So tonight, allow me to state some things which are probably obvious to all of you, but which have been lost in the clamor to “do something” to give meaning to the incomprehensible — which is an understandably human yet impossible task.

Our industry’s products include semiautomatic firearms — one shot for each pull and release of the trigger.  They are the most popular types of firearms in America, and have been for many years.  The most popular hunting and clay target shotguns are semiautomatics.  The one I use most was designed in 1905.  So are the most popular target pistols, including those used in the Olympics.  The most popular .22 rifles used to hunt small game are semiautomatics.

The overwhelming choice of both law enforcement and civilians who wish to exercise their constitutional right to own a pistol for self-defense is a semiautomatic. Semiautomatic rifles have been used in this country for deer hunting since 1905, and they are overwhelmingly the most popular rifles being sold today — yes, for hunting, target shooting, and other lawful sporting purposes and home protection.

Rifles of all kinds (and semiautomatics are rifles) have figured in less than 5% of all crimes committed using firearms.  In Connecticut, since 2006, they have been used in exactly 2 homicides.  In this, they have been used twenty times less than knives, blunt instruments, and even hands and feet.  Millions of law-abiding sportsmen across the nation own them, and when those misinformed about  firearms say that “no sportsman has any need for a gun that is only used to kill people,” they are in effect calling millions of American sportsmen murderers — not exactly the way to promote civil discourse.

And our industry?  Again, easy to demonize among the ignorant, but we are the good people of America as well as they are!  We care deeply about the safety of our children.  Since 1999 we have distributed over 35 million free gun locks, to cities and towns all across this nation, as part of our “Project Childsafe” program; along with even more safety brochures urging gun owners to securely store their firearms away from children and unauthorized adults, as is also the law in Connecticut, I might add.

And we just gave 1,000 locks and safety kits to the people of Bridgeport, Connecticut.  We are expanding our Project Childsafe messaging to emphasize secure storage and in particular the need for this in homes where at-risk individuals may be present.  And securely storing firearms when not in use would have prevented the Newtown tragedy, with no additional laws needed.  Personal responsibility is the key.

Our “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” program, in partnership with the ATF, has educated prospective gun purchasers, sellers, and would-be owners that illegally purchasing and delivering a firearm to someone not legally qualified can get each of them a $25,000 fine and up to ten years in jail.  A new initiative, which will repeat and expand our efforts in cities along the Southwest Border, is also being planned.

And instantaneous retail point-of-sale criminal and mental health background checks were the invention of the industry in the late 1980s, years before they became mandatory federal law.  We recently supported “the NICS Improvement Amendments Act” which addresses gaps in information, particularly in court-adjudicated mental health records, to help prevent purchases of firearms by prohibited persons.

There have been over 147 million background checks since 1998.  Over 300 million firearms are owned by almost half the households in America.  Firearms ownership among normal, law-abiding citizens has undeniably increased, And over the last 30 years, despite the growth in firearms ownership, the homicide rate has declined by 50 percent, and violent crime has dramatically decreased to record lows not seen since the early 1960s.

This baffles our friends who fear that more guns equal more crime, but thankfully, this is just not true.  Facts not emotions, however raw and heartfelt, must guide important social and legislative policies, especially where constitutional rights of American Citizens are concerned.  Of course we listen to our hearts; but we must think with our heads.

We have worked with the Veterans Administration to help ensure that every service member returning from conflict zones during the last 2 years has been offered one of our gun locks and safety kits.

And we have exhorted Hollywood to stop its obsession with violent entertainment, which both coarsens our culture and has a desensitizing effect upon impressionable youths.

We are the National Shooting Sports Foundation.  Our mission is “to promote, protect, and preserve hunting and the shooting sports” so they can safely be enjoyed by all law-abiding Americans with a desire to participate.  And record numbers of them are choosing to do so.

Hunting license sales have reversed a 25-year decline, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with a 9% increase during the last 5 years.

Packed Firearms safety classes also show an intense interest in firearms ownership, and firearms accidents are at an all-time low, constituting less than 1% of all accidental deaths in this country, according to the National Safety Council.  I’d like to think that at least some of these decreases are due to industry and NSSF safety programs.

For it is us, above all, who do not wish to see our products misused.  This industry strongly supports severe penalties for those who misuse their right to own firearms and can’t understand why we are blamed when those who use illegally owned guns harm others.  They don’t go through the many required steps to be able to own and use firearms legally.  Violent criminals who violate the law have no right to keep and bear arms, and they belong in jail.

I recognize that this is a very different and more somber message than I usually give on an evening where we celebrate our industry, the oldest in America, and all the fine people who populate it.  You didn’t cause the monstrous crime in Newtown and neither did we.  My friends and associates in almost six decades of peaceful, lawful enjoyment of the shooting sports have been among the finest people it has ever been my privilege to know.  We abhor criminal violence as we praise the responsible ways in which the vast majority of lawful firearms owners conduct themselves in the hunting fields, at target ranges, and in the home.

We stand ready to participate in any constructive dialogue regarding the safe and lawful manufacture, distribution, sale, ownership, and use of firearms by law-abiding American citizens.  But a prerequisite to such dialog is an honest recognition of the legitimacy of what we do and the important part of the National culture which we represent.  Hunting and the recreational shooting sports are here to stay.  And so are we.

Our culture is a good culture; one that should be celebrated, not destroyed.  And our young Olympic shooters present here tonight represent some of the best America has to offer.

Finally, I would like to recognize and honor my fellow employees at the National Shooting Sports Foundation, some of whom are present tonight. We have been located in Newtown, CT for almost 20 years, and it is our home that was violated by this senseless tragedy as well. The lives of each of our employees that work in Newtown have been directly affected by December’s events — yet they have carried on and performed their jobs despite immense sorrows and pressures, in superb fashion that you and I have come to expect from the consummate professionals they are.

So, ladies and gentlemen, please join me in honoring all the outstanding employees of your trade association, who I would ask to stand and be recognized.

Hold your heads high and be thankful that you live in America, which is still the freest nation in the world, and where our home, and hearts, and our precious days afield with our family and friends will always be remembered.

State of the Industry: More Unified Than Ever, Says NSSF President

NSSF President Steve Sanetti delivers the State of the Industry address.

In his 34 years in the industry, NSSF President Steve Sanetti said he has never seen the industry more unified.

During the SHOT Show’s annual State of the Industry event, Sanetti said that membership in NSSF, the industry’s trade association, is more than double what it was just five years ago.

“Together we comprise a record number of more than 7,000 of America’s favorite firearms and ammunition manufacturers, wholesalers, importers, retailers, shooting ranges, gun clubs, conservation groups, outdoor media, safety instructors, and many others, who share our avocation and our passion for our industry and our uniquely American way of life,” Sanetti said. “Our membership has never been stronger or more engaged. We have had great success in recent years solidfying our industry’s base of support.”

While the nation’s economy has remained stagnant the past few years, the firearms and ammunition industry has been one of its few bright spots.

“Eighteen consecutive quarters of sales growth, as evidenced most recently by an all-time high number of mandatory point-of-sales background checks in December, and during the worst recession since the great depression, would be an enviable feat for any industry. Yet we have achieved it, and we have shared our prosperity by giving back,” Sanetti said.

Sanetti said the industry’s success has also helped fuel the nation’s conservation programs, and he pointed out that 2012 marks the 75th anniversary of the Pittman/Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act, which created the dedicated excise tax on firearms and ammunition. This year, he said, the industry will continue to spread the word to all Americans that hunters and shooters provide the vast majority of financial support for conservation.

With 2012 being a critical election year, Sanetti said, NSSF will ensure that candidates and voters are educated on all issues affecting the industry and firearm freedoms.

“We will not presume to tell any of you how to cast your vote. But I can promise you this. Your industry’s voice will be heard. We will educate voters and legislators and candidates alike as to our legitimate interests, and about our hopes and concerns regarding where this great nation of ours is going,” he said.

Dolnack: SHOT Show a Chance for New Companies to Become Next Iconic Brand

Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president and chief marketing officer, speaks at the State of the Industry Dinner sponsored by Outdoor Channel..

At last night’s State of the Industry Dinner sponsored by Outdoor Channel, Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president and chief marketing officer, opened the evening with these comments:

We’re thrilled to have you with us here tonight as the industry kicks off a brand new year with exciting new product launches and eager new exhibitors.

The 2012 SHOT Show is the launching pad of hopes and dreams for more than 100 first-time exhibitors who were previously wait listed. These upstarts are following the trail blazed by industry icons that came before them.
Companies like GLOCK that started out small, exhibiting at their first SHOT Show in 1987 with an innovative new product that changed the way we looked at pistol design and created a whole new product category.

Companies like Realtree, which was launched by Bill Jordan at the SHOT Show with a few pieces of clothing, a 20-by-20-foot booth which was only half paid for when the show opened, and a whole lot of moxie.

On the opening morning of the show, the Bass Pro Shops buyer walked into the Realtree booth. Ten minutes later, the Oshman’s buyer walked into the booth. After another ten minutes, here came the Wal-Mart buyer. And by the end of that SHOT Show all three had placed orders and Jordan was able to quit ducking show manager Jerry van Dijk and pay the balance on his booth.

Because, you see, the SHOT Show isn’t just about transactional commerce. The SHOT Show is about face-to-face meetings between people who are passionate about hunting and shooting and who are committed to providing their respective customers with products that will enhance their hunting or shooting experience.

Survey after survey reveals that our customers come to the SHOT Show to gather additional information on new products that will help them in making their buying decisions. That’s because the SHOT Show is the one place you can go to see everyone and everything you need to gain a competitive edge.

The SHOT Show is the largest gathering of outdoor media anywhere with over 2,100 writers, broadcasters and bloggers here. The SHOT Show is also the largest cutlery show and the largest law enforcement show anywhere.

By repurposing the SHOT Show floor and opening up exhibit space for those companies that represent our core hunting, shooting and tactical business we’ve infused the SHOT Show with new product offerings that will offer retailers new opportunities when these 100 waitlisted companies begin their journey to becoming the next generation of iconic industry brands.

Thanks for being here tonight and for supporting NSSF.
